BOTOX® Injections
You laugh, you cry, you wrinkle! The facial lines and wrinkles that appear at 40 and 50 actually begin decades earlier from natural facial expressions. Dr. Kirk Churukian utilizes injections of BOTOX® Cosmetic at his office near San Jose to reduce these lines. Injectable Fillers
Dr. Kirk Churukian can help patients who want to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and creases by using JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, Perlane®, Radiesse™, and Restylane® injectable treatments at his practice near San Jose. These treatments are minimally invasive and require little to no down time. In fact, they are frequently called "lunch time procedures" because they are so quick and painless.
Restylane®
Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases that run from the sides of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Restylane® is a cosmetic dermal filler made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body which lubricates and cushions connective tissue. With age, the body's levels of hyaluronic acid diminish, causing the skin to lose its suppleness. Restylane® replenishes the hyaluronic acid that the body loses.
Restylane® maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid decreases, the molecules bind to water, and, over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. Because of this binding to water, hyaluronic acid-based treatments provide lasting results. Restylane® is free from animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins. Restylane®, like any injectable filler, requires maintenance treatments so that you can stay looking your best.
Radiesse™
Radiesse™ is a new long-lasting injectable product. This soft tissue filler is made from calcium hydroxyaptite, the same material that forms the scaffolding of teeth and bones. Approximately 10 years of medical use reveals a very favorable safety profile and low incidences of side effects.
Once injected into the tissue, Radiesse™ takes on the characteristic of its surroundings: hard when on bone and soft when in fat. The duration of the augmentation appears to be one year or longer, making Radiesse™ one of the longest lasting commercially available fillers. Radiesse™ is used cosmetically to fill smile lines and marionette lines (the lines that hang down from the corners of the mouth), to plump lips, and correct acne scars.
The benefit of Radiesse™ over collagen is its ability to last for several years with only occasional touch-ups necessary. Because it is a product with a very low allergy profile, no testing is required prior to treatment. Unlike collagen fillers, Radiesse™ does not have anesthetic in the material; therefore, in most instances, local anesthetic is injected to allow for a more comfortable treatment.
Perlane®
Like Restylane®, Perlane® is a filler made of synthetic hyaluronic acid. The difference between Perlane® and Restylane® is that Perlane® has a higher level of hyaluronic acid. Perlane® softens the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles and folds. It is commonly used to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles, such as crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and frown lines, and is also used to make lips plumper, and to correct small scars. Like Restylane® and Radiesse™, this filler has very low risk of allergic reaction. The effects of Perlane® last for six months to a year and require touch ups to maintain the full effects of the treatment.

JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
For many people, a prominent, asymmetric, bumpy or undesirable nose leads to extreme self-consciousness. Dr. Kirk Churukian performs high-quality rhinoplasty to patients from San Jose, Los Gatos, and the greater bay area to improve the appearance and even the function of their noses.
Rhinoplasty can correct a variety of undesirable conditions, including difficulty with breathing (corrected by a procedure called septoplasty), an oversized nose, a hump on the bridge, an undesirable shape of the nasal tip, or a narrow or wide span of the nostrils. Neck Lift
A double chin can be corrected with a surgical procedure known as a submental lipectomy, commonly called a neck lift, whereby excess fat is removed. This is frequently done in conjunction with face lift surgery. If the neck is the only problem, a platysma lift can be performed, but in most cases the neck does not sag alone.
In general, the best candidates for a neck lift are:
- 18 years or older with reasonably good skin elasticity and muscle tone in the face and neck.

Endoscopic Brow Lift (Forehead Lift)
Drooping or lowering of the eyebrows is frequently one of the earliest signs of aging. This condition is often overlooked because most people are unaware of the problem and the marked improvement its correction can provide. Eyelid Surgery
The eyes are the windows of the face and give away our age more than any other facial feature. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is performed to surgically remove the fat deposits and loose skin that have formed over time on the upper and/or lower eyelids. Many factors, including heredity and sun damage, accelerate these changes.
Younger people often elect to undergo eyelid surgery to eliminate puffiness of the eyes from congenital excess fatty tissue. Older people with severe ptosis (a medical condition causing the upper eyelids to severely droop and interfere with peripheral vision) often elect to undergo this procedure to correct their vision. Eyelid surgery is frequently combined with a brow lift or face lift for a more dramatic facial rejuvenation.
In general, the best candidates for blepharoplasty are:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Have no known ophthalmic conditions such as glaucoma or detached retina.
- Have no known medical conditions such as high blood pressure, circulatory problems, hypothyroidism or other thyroid related conditions.

Facial Implants
Permanent (yet reversible) facial implants provide new contour and dimension to bring facial features into better balance. Dr. Kirk Churukian offers facial implants to enhance the chin, cheeks, jaw and lips. Facial implants are often used in conjunction with a face lift procedure to properly lift and balance the face. Although the results can be pleasingly dramatic in the eye of the patient, facial implants are typically natural and subtle in their corrections.
In general, the best candidates for facial implants are:
- 18 years of age or older.
- Non-smoker.
- In good mental and physical condition with no active diseases or pre-existing medical conditions.
- Knowledgeable about the procedure and its limitations.

Chin, Cheek, and Jaw Implants
Cheek, chin, and jaw implants are made in various shapes and sizes. They are made of both solid and semi-solid materials and have been used successfully for years. They help make the face more aesthetically pleasing by providing structure and bringing features into balance. For example, a weak chin can detract from an otherwise beautiful face by eliminating symmetry. It can make a normal nose appear large and an already prominent nose even larger. Chin implants are used to create a stronger chin so that the features appear balanced.
Lips and Nasolabial Implants
Permanent (yet reversible) soft tissue implants can enhance, augment or restore facial appearance. Tissue deficiencies in the lip borders and nasolabial folds (the deep lines that run from the nose to the mouth) can be gently lifted using a soft, pliable, synthetic tube-like implant made from ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoro-ethylene). The implant material is porous and allows the body's tissue to attach itself to the implant over time. This Gor-Tex material is a non-reactive, non-toxic polymer that has been used in medical implants throughout the body for years with no known negative reaction.

Ear Surgery
For many adults and children, having large ears leads to ridicule and extreme self-consciousness. Otoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to reduce large or protruding ears by setting the ears back closer to the head as well as molding, shaping, and/or removing cartilage. Often the problem is caused by an undeveloped middle fold of the ear. There may be other deformities as well, making it necessary to perform several procedures on the ear at the same time.
Otoplasty can be performed at any age after the ears have reached (or nearly reached) their full size, which is around five to six years of age. This surgery is performed on the young and not-so-young alike; however, it is most often performed on children between the ages of five and 14.
In general, the best candidates for otoplasty are:
- 4 years of age or older.
- Have no history of scarring problems, such as keloids.
- In good physical and mental health with no active diseases or pre-existing medical conditions.
- Knowledgeable of the limitations of activities required for good healing.
- Able and willing to carefully follow the postoperative instructions.
- Knowledgeable of the surgery and its limitations.
- Realistic in their expectations of the surgical outcome

Face/Chin Liposuction
Liposuction (lipoplasty) is a procedure that suctions fat from the body. Submental lipoplasty removes fat pockets from the face and chin, and facial micro-liposuction is most often performed to sculpt the chin. This sculpting procedure can significantly reduce the appearance of excess fat under the chin that causes the face to appear overweight or heavy or makes the chin appear non-existent. By removing the excess fat pocket, the lower facial structure can be significantly defined. Facial lipoplasty is sometimes performed in conjunction with chin augmentation for significant facial definition and balance.
