Face Lift
As we age, our facial skin loosens and wrinkles and the underlying facial muscles weaken. The many factors that cause the skin to lose elasticity will hasten the process, including sun exposure, weight fluctuations and heredity. Dr. Kirk Churukian uses face lift surgery, or rhytidectomy, at his office near San Jose to address these problems.
Face lift surgically removes and tightens the skin and underlying muscles of the face and neck. Typically, a face lift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face (jowls and neck), and does not correct problems around the eyes and forehead. These areas are addressed through blepharoplasty and/or brow lift, and can sometimes be done at the same time as face lift. The platysma lift is typically combined with the face lift procedure for proper correction. With the many face lift options available today, you and your surgeon can determine which techniques are right for you.
Midface Lift
If you have lost elasticity in your cheeks, but do not have jowls or drooping skin on the neck, you might be a good candidate for a midface lift, a facial plastic surgery procedure that Dr. Kirk Churukian offers at his San Jose and Los Gatos area practice. A midface lift involves tightening the muscles and skin of the cheeks to make this area smoother. It is sometimes a solution for deep facial lines such as nasolabial folds (creases running from the sides of your nose to the corner or your mouth) or marionette lines (deep lines from the sides of your mouth to the sides of your chin). Patients who only need these areas addressed and do not need a full face lift can opt for a midface lift, which is less invasive than full face lift surgery.
Mini Face Lift
With the continuing "changing face" of plastic surgery, newer technology and techniques offer corrections with minimal incisions and shorter scars. With incisions made in front of the ears only, more and more people, especially younger ones, are opting for the minimal-incision (short scar) face lift, also called mini face lift. Like a midface lift, results are as good as with full face lift surgery in patients without a lot of neck sagging. There is also less downtime and less scarring. Candidates for Face Lift Surgery
In general, the best candidates for a face lift or midface lift are:
- 18 years or older with reasonably good skin elasticity and muscle tone in the face and neck.
- Have no history of scarring problems.
- In good physical and mental health with no active diseases or pre-existing medical conditions.
- Non-smokers.
- Knowledgeable about the procedure and its limitations.
- Realistic in their expectations of the surgical outcome.
